Great Deal December 23, 2008 Amazing laptop for the price. After a month, no problems with it.
Loves to attract fingerprints.
HP Pavilion DV7-1020US December 21, 2008 Pretty nice laptop, my other laptop is a dell m1710 2.33ghz duo core, 100gb hard drive, 2gb ram, 17" screen, nvidia 7950gtx and it compares pretty well.
It's fast but vista probably slows it down a bit because i can start the m1710 after I turn the hp on and the m1710 starts first and is ready to go while the hp has a considerably longer start up time.
The screen is great but you have to be directly in front of it or else it appears dark and is difficult to see clearly/there is a glare, it doesn't generate as much heat as the dell and it is much quieter too. It feels better with video games too which surprised me I didn't expect that from a 9600gt mobile graphics card.
I wish it had more usb ports though only three on it but I do use the hdmi port to connect it to my tv, however, i have no blu ray movies that i can use in the drive.
and boy does it show fingerprints, can't seem to keep it clean. overall though it is a great laptop. I wanted it with bluetooth but the model amazon sells doesn't have it.
It's an excellent but for about $1200.00. i hope it holds out though, time will tell.
ps, i wanted to add another hard drive but you have to buy a caddy for it to hold the drive securely in the laptop, $60 for the caddy which is just a piece of metal seems unreasonable...
A great deal and an unbeatable price December 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've worked with six different HP laptops and they seem to get better and better. My dv7 replaces a quite serviceable HP laptop that I'm giving to my son and is intended to function as a "desktop replacement." While the issue with showing fingerprints is obvious, this is a beautiful machine with fantastic capabilities. The screen is quite customizable and makes the most of anything it displays. The keypad feels very responsive and pleasantly tactile while the performance is just what you'd expect. There are plenty of ways to take this basic configuration and pump it up at the HP website, but for the money, this is a combination that is simply superb! There have been no negative surprises and plenty of positive ones.
Excellent laptop December 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this laptop for approximately three months now. It is an excellent laptop so far to date. Lots of bells and whistles for the money. Fast and reliable. It is a beautiful looking laptop, if you can keep it clean! I am running a dual boot OS Windows Vista and Linux with no problems.
Not going to give a run down on what it offers cause you can look it up on your on. I will point out the features I like and don't like.
Likes: Great graphics card I play alot games and Blue Ray movies. Tv tuner is awesome allowing me to TIVO my tv. Full number keypad ...feels like a regular keyboard. Great display. All around an attractive design.
Dislikes: GLOSSY BLACK FINISH PICKS UP EVERY SMUDGE. HP software and windows kinda bloated taking up alot of hard disk space. NO genuine windows disk. (Almost all companies are doing this crap now saves them money)
Had lots of computers over the past 15 years. I would recommend this laptop to others.
HP 1020us December 5, 2008 Only things that would make this better would be a faster processor and a 1080 screen but still exellent.
